Our Budget & Expenses (Feb – Oct, 2010)
Jul 6th
In an effort to be transparent with just exactly what we are doing with all donations that we receive, we would like to share a breakdown of the costs associated with our work in Fond Parisien in 2010. Please do keep in mind that Physical Therapy is the NUMBER 1 need in Haiti! There are 200,000 severely injured people that span 3 generations of Haitians. HOLIA has been concentrating on 200 severely injured that currently reside in a displacement camp that has approximately 2000 total residents. Because this is Haiti & not a completely stable economic environment, costs are constantly changing, but the following includes costs to date as well as projected costs through October.

THANK YOU for your donations!
Jul 5th
Everyone that has donated and supported HOLIA and assisted with any volunteers’ trips — we have received your donations!
With FULL hearts, we THANK YOU! You all will receive a thank you/donation letter towards the end of August. We have been so busy with the volunteers and the camp. There are only so many hours in the day. Your donations are so important, for they are allowing us to keep serving the people of Haiti!
We are half way to our monetary goal for Betsy’s trip and for the costs for paying 2 Haitian employees, extra translators, gas for the truck, phone costs, patient supplies and equipment costs, etc.
If you have not contributed, PLEASE consider doing so. Any amount will help so much!
Thank you again for all of you that have contributed to Hands of Light in Action!
Together We can Change the World!

Finding a Home for a Malnutritioned Orphan
Jul 4th
Mat and Lorin are off to a great start! Danny and Susan had a great time, worked hard and identified further needs of several patients in the camp. She even is working on getting a malnutritioned orphan a home. Apparently, this 4 year old orphan–mom died and dad left him–is being cared for by numerous people at the camp but due to not enough food at the camp, he is not getting enough to eat. Dr Scottie and Susan are worried about him and are working on solving the situation. Danny worked at Camp Hope and the warehouse and was best “buds” with Dugan! Again thank you Susan and Danny!
Welcome, Mat & Lorin! Well done, Susan & Danny!
Jul 3rd
Mat, PT, and Lorin, medical volunteer, from Montreal, Canada have arrived at Love A Child safely and are settled in. Welcome, Mat and Lorin — enjoy our Camp Hope!
Susan, PT, and her son Danny worked hard this last week in raised temperatures! They experienced some weather delays in getting back to California, but they are now home, safe and sound! I am sure that Danny’s first stop will be a USA restaurant where he can order familiar items and a cold, cold drink. Danny, have a gallon of ice cream on me!! Welcome home! Thank you for giving so much & sacrificing your personal comfort in order to help others in much more desperate need, Susan and Danny!
Update on Susan and Danny
Jul 1st
Susan has been seeing as many patients as she can a day–she reports about 25 patients daily. Junior and Retha have been assisting. They cut off the patient sign-up after the first 25 due to Susan being the only PT at Camp Hope this week. Danny has been working at the warehouse. Susan is handling the patients with their needs beautifully and is referring them out to the hospital for x-rays and other needs. She got “Drama Girl”
a shoe lift and has been using E-stim on her. Susan reports that she is now able to dorsiflex and is lacking just 5 degrees. Walking with a cane but progressing well! Great Job–Susan and Danny! Thank You!
