Junior’s patients making great progress!

Heard from Kirstin today. Several patients that Junior has been treating are going to be discharged to goals! Some are scheduled for surgery in the near future. Notes coming back from the doctors are showing that Junior is making great progress with the others!!! GREAT JOB, JUNIOR! No cholera at Camp Hope at present!

    Easiest Fundraiser EVER!

The EASIEST FUNDRAISER we can do is just FILL OUT THE FORM at the link at bottom of this post. Then pass it along to all of your friends, co workers and family! Post it on your FB page! If everyone of HOLIA’s 784 supporters just on Facebook filled this out and sent the $10 gift card to HOLIA, we could purchase 2 water filters, bleach, soap and charcoal. We would have collected $7840 with no money out of our pockets and only 2 minutes to submit the form and 1 minute sending the gift card to HOLIA. DO IT and THANK YOU!!

Items needed at Camp Hope & Love A Child

OK everyone–let us come together and do something to help our Camp Hope and Love A Child! I am including a list of items needed that can be sent to LACs Florida office. Also we need to gather soap, charcoal for cooking and I am taking donations to raise money to purchase and install a water purifier system plus any extra will go to the purchase of bleach. Our camp can not follow the rules set up to prevent Cholera if they can not thoroughly cook their food, if they have no soap to clean themselves nor if they have no bleach to disinfect the latrines/showers/tents. I know many of you HOLIA volunteers and your potential for raising money and supplies is great. Thanksgiving is coming and many of you will see friends and family. Let us do something we can be thankful for by helping our Camp Hope! Please let us come together and DO something to help! Think about it!

    Haiti Water Project Update

    Bill Farrar reports:
“We had a fantastic day getting the concrete stands ready and completing the assembly of the four purifier systems going to four tent cites near Leogane. With just a few more parts, we will be able to remove the purifier and take it from tank to tank to tank. By next week, we will have six tanks providing water in six tent cites using two purifier systems. My new quick disconnect design is working beautifully!”

Update on cholera situation in Haiti

I haven’t been continuing to post updates about the Cholera outbreak because of several rumors, exaggerated articles and untruths. What I know from volunteers in PAP and surrounding is that Cholera is spreading, PAP hospitals at present are not overflowing but admissions in some hospitals are up, other hospitals in PAP have no cases of Cholera, all NGOs and the government of Haiti have been instructing on cholera prevention. Some NGOs such as Fountain of Hope are installing water purifiers in camps but many more are needed.

Bill Farrar and Fountains of Hope making a difference!

Awesome day! Installed purifier #2 in Druen, Haiti which is located on the river where the cholera outbreak started. Stayed with Pastor Luc and his family last night. Pastor Luc lost his father and mother-in-law last week due to the cholera outbreak! The water is very muddy but that is all that these peasants have to drink!! The FoH system provides filtration and chlorination which kills all the deadly bacteria!

Hurricane Tomas Bears Down on Haiti Refugees

Winds are not bad yet in Haiti. They are getting a lot of rain so mud slides are a concern. Hurricane had moved a little west of Haiti but the southeastern part of Haiti will be experiencing Hurricane 1 wind speeds-85 mph. Again Camp Hope is safe and sound. All are either in the school, at Love A Child or they chose to go to PAP to stay with family. Many in surrounding communities refused to leave their tents fearing that they would lose their spot on the land and what few possessions they have. After hurricane, biggest concern is that Cholera will spread more rapidly due to the excess water, grown of the bacteria in the stagnant water and contamination of the water supply due to flooding that could result in sewage overflowing into the communities.

    Cholera outbreak has decreased

Cholera outbreak has decreased greatly to date—Report from an NGO actively involved in treatment–”-Our team handed over medical responsibilities to more newly arrived groups. The epidemic has died down significantly. Some are concerned about resurgency after hurricane this weekend, but we will take it one step at a time.”
