What a wonderful year

“We will open a book. The pages of the book are blank. We will put words on the pages ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.”

-Edith Lovejoy Pierce.

Thanks to all of our volunteers, patients, donors and friends! Together we ROCKED Camp Hope and grew along the way. Hands of Light in Action wishes you all a joyous, productive, fulfilling and loving New Year!

April 2010: A freshman and pre-med student at Santa Clara University, I was standing in line for dinner when my cell phone rang. I answered to hear my mothers voice and the question: “Would you be interested in going to Haiti this summer?” I am ashamed to admit it, but I laughed. I laughed because…

Last night in my dream i saw a flag waving
In a country that people are suffering
Too much misery make them fighting
Each other for surviving
And wonder themselves,what happening?

Fury over election creates flashpoint in Haitiwww.msnbc.msn.com Dec. 8: Nine days after Haiti’s chaotic election, thousands of protesters stormed through the streets of Port au Prince Wednesday and rioted with guns, rocks and burning tires, flaming more unrest as the city battles a major cholera epidemic. NBC’s Ann Curry reports from Haiti.

Rick Kienholz reports

Lots going on here after the election results were released. You’ve heard who knows what, but this I know for sure: We are safe and sound, in a wonderful place, living in air conditioned quarters (a total God thing) and all are in good spirits. Pray for the people of Haiti as they are the

HOLIA Trip: June 4-19, 2011 to Haiti

Hands of Light in Action will be taking volunteers both medical and non medical to Haiti from June 4-19. Whether we go back to LAC will be if there is a need at that time. If no need at Camp Hope then we will spend a few days there helping at the warehouse and spending time with our friends at Camp Hope traversing to area that could use our help. Keep this in mind and let me know if you are interested.

Josh & Betsy return to Camp Hope

Josh and Betsy are leaving for Camp Hope to follow up and update patients and Juniors treatment plans on Dec 8th. Have a safe, productive and fun trip!

UPDATE: Due to election riots in PAP with burning tires and wall blockades on roads, AA cancelled all flights for 2 days, cancelling Josh & Betsy’s trip. Expecting huge “riot” in Camp Hope due to Josh and Betsy not showing up today! :-) :-) Kirstin will be performing the follow up needed on the patients. Thank you, Kirstin!!!

Cholera Treatment Center in Fond Parisien

A Cholera Treatment Center is going to be set up outside LAC. Help by volunteering or by donating, if you can. We treated & saw a recovery of over 200 patients. Let us help keep them safe by having enough supplies, a decent place with cots in which to receive help if sick, & enough volunteers to treat and care for the sick. It is at our doorstep guys!

Graphic & horrifying: Cholera in PaP

CAUTION–Graphic and Horrifyingly True Pictures and Article about the current situation in PAP… Brought me to tears, feeling helpless and so much frustration. So difficult to understand how this can happen to the people we so dearly love. I so wish that Haiti would get a strong, honest, dedicated leader, the US and others would release the funds to Haiti, clean water and infrastructure would be achieved, medical services would become available…
