Camp Hope Photos
Oct 23rd
We placed many photos on the walls of the PT tent for people to review which turned out to be the most popular event of the party. You could see people gathered in groups or individually looking intently at their photos. Many of the children and teenagers would gather together to view each other’s photos and remember the months from Jan to Oct. The adults were seen sharing their photos with the kids or sharing their photos with each other. Smiles and laughter but also tears were brought out with the photos. Even some would go off a little ways from the party, sit by themselves and view their picture when they thought no one was looking. You could see the thoughts/emotions. For me, it was a tender time for I just watched the expressions and the grouping of the people of Camp Hope as they shared with each other but also they processed their progress and life up to this point…
On my last night, I was at Camp Hope late for I had several people wanting to have their picture taken before I left. We will be sending these pictures down for handout next month. All I can say is THANK YOU, THANK YOU, and THANK YOU for the volunteers that took the time and effort to send photos to me to share! It meant the world to Camp Hope!

“Therapist Moove” by Jean Robert Fontaine
Oct 17th
A wonderful painting was gifted to me by Nancy! I will cherish it always and remember our time in Haiti through it. Nancy requested the painting from Jean Robert Fontaine (the painter who now lives at Camp Hope). The painting is titled “Therapist Moove.” When facing the painting, the top left corner represents the earthquake; the arms, legs and body represent physical therapy; the faces represent the Haitian people; the sun and moon can be seen near the center repsenting hope; the bottom right corner in blue and represents ‘calm.’ More of Jean Robert Fontaine’s paintings can be found at www.lobey.net/Jean_robert_fontaine.html.

New Tents Have Arrived!
Sep 28th
Here is a photo of the new tents that the American Refugee Committee (ARC) is providing for approximately 100 residences at Camp Hope. It will take a while to get them all up & to replace every one that really needs to be replaced (arguably all 320), but it is an excellent start!
Erin Jackson Tucker reports from Haiti
Sep 10th
The nine of us have had SO many opportunities to participate with other organizations! Spending time helping the orphanage with supplies to be distributed in the medical clinics and loving the Haitian kids that are so hungry for hugs and affection. Helping a medical clinic see over 100 patients in half a day. Helping the PT clinic to see 30+ patients a day.
Quote of the day: “Um…bugs are just dying on me. I think it’s the Off…”
Patients Making Progress
Aug 31st
This week we are continuing to send patients to follow-up appointments with the ortho docs in Port-au-Prince to try and make the most of the docs’ stay. Our system is working well as each patient returns with a note from the doctor detailing their new plan of care. Monday was a big day for our patient Richard as he walked with Sarah, PT, and no assistive device for the first time in a long time! We are all happy and healthy

Day of Rest = Riverbed Hike!
Aug 22nd
The HOLIA team took a hike today with the fearless leader Rebecca! We hiked up a dry riverbed to a small village and distributed headlamps, t-shirts and shoes. The riverbed hike was challenging due to the lack of shade. The most impressive part was the ease and speed that the locals move up and down the riverbed (as we trudged along)! The team had a great time! It was a great day off!
Destruction Still Apparent Throughout Haiti
Aug 21st
This photo was taken last weekend on our way from Fond Parisien to Jacmel (a beach). It is an example of the destruction that is still evident in Haiti 7 months after the earthquake. Even though we enjoyed our weekend at the beach, there were constant reminders of the devestation surrounding us. The beach area we traveled to (Jacmel) was also significantly damaged by the earthquake. Tent cities were scattered around and many of buildings were destroyed. There is so much crumbled building…I wish we could grind it all up and use it to rebuild. We did find a hotel and a lovely beach area to enjoy. Haiti is a beautiful country!

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP!
Jun 28th
Photo Slideshow (by Brad Rewold) – Those pictures remind me of our journey and our purpose. We currently have 554 people following our journey on Facebook. Join us! We truly need your help to meet our goal of taking the “disabled” out of 200 patients’ lives. Many camps are spending millions, but we just need less than $10,000 to allow us to pay for all the needs of our camp through October. We have gathered approximately $3000 since February. If 554 people on this site donated $15.00/person — we will be able to sustain our camp, pay our staff, gas, phone, PT needs until the end of Oct. PLEASE THINK ABOUT IT!
