Hurricane Harvey
After Hurricane Harvey, many communities were flooded with 4-8 feet of water, some more. Hands of Light in Action was there immediately to help with water rescues. They are now in towns like Beaumont and Vidor Texas helping people with the physically and emotionally difficult tasks of gutting and mold remediation. Many hands are needed. If you can commit to a minimum of 7 days of work, HOLIA may be able to arrange for free flights to get you there. If you are unable to travel, please consider donating as the need for rebuilding supplies is enormous.
Hurricane Irma
Assistance is also needed in the cleanup efforts for Hurricane Irma. Roofers and people with chainsaws would be especially beneficial. Between water rescues and cleanup efforts in Texas, HOLIA was on site in Florida helping there. HOLIA has connections in many of these disaster areas, so every dollar you contribute will go directly to helping people in need.
Haiti
Hands of Light in Action provides support to communities to rebuild after disasters. They don't just come in and take over, but work hand-in-hand with the residents and empower them to take pride and ownership in their rebuilding efforts. When HOLIA comes to help, the volunteers don't stay in nice hotels and eat in restaurants, they sleep on the floors and eat the local food. (Beans and rice anyone?) Your donations are not wasted on giving people a mission trip experience, but go directly to help those in need. HOLIA has been serving in this way in Haiti for many years and is planning a return trip next year to continue with rebuilding efforts from past hurricanes.
